Position: Fund Development Manager

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Classification: Exempt – Full-time

Pay Range: $30-34/hour

At House of Hope CDC we affirm safe, stable housing as a basic human right. We address the trauma of homelessness by empowering constituents, delivering high-impact innovative services, diversifying housing options, and advocating for policies to counter structural inequalities.                    

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Fund Development Manager will be responsible for the design and implementation of the organization’s fund development efforts. This position will serve as the organization’s fundraising “Chief of Staff ” to ensure that all ambassadors of the organization have the tools they need to be successful in their efforts to increase financial resources. The Fund Development Manager will build upon existing systems, research prospects, and ‘set the table’ with the Executive Director to cultivate and steward donors and close gifts. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Donor + Corporate Partner Cultivation

  • Enhance fund development strategy that includes renewed and upgraded gifts from existing donors and identification and acquisition of new donors.
  • Develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for major gift prospects by assessing philanthropic intent, interest in supporting House of Hope CDC, and giving capacity.
  • Identify specific cohorts to target for gifts, and implement strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward.
  • Create direct mail appeals throughout the year, including drafting of materials, managing bulk mailing of materials, creating targeting distribution lists, and appropriate follow-up
  • Draft additional written materials to share with donors, including but not limited to written newsletters, social media posts, and an annual report infographic. 
  • Responsible for sending and tracking monetary and in-kind donation thank you letters
  • Oversee the ongoing maintenance of the CRM platform to ensure proper documentation and tracking of all donor gifts, planned giving, and foundation prospects; analyze all aspects of gifts accordingly. 
  • Serve as the liaison and provide logistical support for donors, businesses, churches, schools, and any other entities that coordinate events to benefit the organization.
  • Solicit in-kind donations based on agency needs.
  • Motivates and trains board members, staff, and volunteers to be effective fundraisers.
  • Serve as the point person for small fundraising and cultivation events that House of Hope CDC initiates.
  • Maintain role in strategic planning of events for House of Hope, including bi-annual major fundraising event.

Communications

  • Foster a culture of ethical storytelling across the organization. 
  • Ensure that fund development, marketing, and public relations activities are consistent with agency mission, standards and funding requirements.
  • Supports website maintenance through content uploads, quarterly e-newsletters, social media posts, and other communications work as assigned.
  • Develop letters, brochures, and stewardship materials for staff, Board members, and media.
  • Assist with spearheading local awareness campaigns through a variety of media outlets, as applicable.

Other Duties

  • Perform research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants; prepare and submits grant proposals accordingly. 
  • Coordinate foundation and corporate site visits and tours as necessary.
  • Participates in the annual budget process in collaboration with the management team.
  • Represent the organization in the community at public speaking events.
  • Serves as a key liaison to the Board of Directors Fund Development + Public Relations Committee.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required occasionally.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven knowledge of fund development techniques.                             
  • Demonstrated track record in successful fund development and meeting those goals and objectives.
  • Familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospects and proven experience in donor cultivation and major gifts solicitation. 
  • Basic understanding of accounting practices and procedures, including restricted gift management.
  • Ability to cultivate and sustain relationships and work effectively with a wide variety of constituencies.
  • Strong organizational, time management, project management, delegation, and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.                                    
  • Familiarity with Bloomerang, or other donor management platforms.                  
  • Ability to work independently and with initiative in a dynamic environment.
  • Mission-driven – understanding that successful fundraising is achieved through immersion across the entire organization, particularly direct service programs.
  • Possess basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, Internet, and email.     
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and a properly insured, inspected, and registered automobile.
