Summer Appeal 2023

HELLO FRIENDS,

Thanks to YOUR Support, House of Hope CDC has worked harder than ever in the first half of 2023 to combat homelessness in Rhode Island. And yet despite the successes that YOU have powered House of Hope to accomplish, the scale of the challenge continues to grow.

According to the Point In Time count released in June, Rhode Island saw 1,810 people experiencing homelessness, an increase of 15% since last year. Unsheltered homelessness has increased 370% since 2019. The count provides a snapshot of those experiencing homelessness in our state, on any given night, both in shelter and unsheltered.

Rhode Island remains in a serious housing crisis.

Meanwhile at House of Hope, your contributions have resulted in remarkable milestones and successes. We continue to do all we can to house those who come to us in need and provide dignity to those living on the street.

  • Shower to Empower recently provided shower number 7,000, and that program remains in high demand across the state.
  • The Peer Mentor Employment and Training program saw its first class of graduates since being grounded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This program teaches life and employment skills to those who are experiencing or have recently experienced homelessness.
  • In the past year, 295 of the 297 people House of Hope helped remained in permanent housing – proof that your support works!

Even with these accomplishments, we face an uphill struggle to reach our shared vision of seeing every person in a safe home.

As always, we are deeply grateful to each of you for your support as we fight for universal housing access in Rhode Island. Please consider making a gift or committing to support our work monthly. YOU will make a difference in someone’s life – even the smallest gifts show your commitment to and passion for our mission.

With Gratitude,

Laura Jaworski Executive Director
